Bowie has previously declined the British honour Commander of the British Empire in 2000, and a knighthood in 2003.[92] In 1999, he was made a Commander of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government.[93] He received an honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music in 1999.
