Monterey Pop Festival

1967 - A început celebrul festival de la Monterey, California (Monterey Pop), cu Otis Redding, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Who, Canned Heat, The Byrds, Jefferson Airplane, etc.

Monterey Festivalul Internaţional de Muzică Pop a fost un eveniment de trei zile de concert ce a avut loc  in  1967 la Monterey , California . Monterey a fost primul festival care a promovat pe scară largă şi în mare măsură Rock -ul , atragand de la 55000 de participanti  până la 90.000 de oameni la miezul nopţii.

Festivalul este amintit pentru apariţiilelui  Jimi Hendrix si The Who , precum şi primele spectacole publice majore, ale lui Janis Joplin . Acesta a fost, de asemenea, primul spectacol  mare cu Otis Redding în faţa unui public predominant alb. 

Monterey Pop Festival întruchipat teme din California  este în general considerată ca fiind unul dintre începuturile " Summer of Love "în 1967. Monterey a devenit model pentru festivalurile de muzică viitoare, în special în Festivalul Woodstock doi ani mai târziu.
