Thomas J. Abercrombie (13.08.1930-03.04.2006) a fost un scriitor şi un fotograf, renumit pentru munca sa în Orientul Mijlociu  pentru National Geographic . În timpul mandatului său la revista Geographic, Abercrombie a călătorit în toate cele şapte continente, devenind fotojurnalist in  prima călătorie la Polul Sud în 1956. Alte notabile lucrari includ fotografii pentru Jacques Cousteau şi echipa lui de la bordul navei Calypso. Abercrombie a fost primul jurnalist din Vest ce a facut subiecte islamice cu pelerinajul la Mecca în articolul său :Dincolo  de Nisipurile Mecca, publicat in 1966 .

            Thomas J. Abercrombie was born on August 13, 1930 in Stillwater, Minnesota.  Abercrombie studied art and Journalism at St. Paul’s Macalester College.  Post graduation, he was staff photographer at the Fargo Forum and Wisconsin’s Milwaukee Journal
